  • Course Detail

An assessment of whether to rehabilitate a tooth requiring endodontic treatment or to replace it with a dental implant can often involve a challenging and complex decision-making process.

This is a focused curriculum, pertaining to both treatment modalities, which identifies key issues that need careful consideration in planning the most appropriate course of care in a given clinical situation. A need to appreciate advances across both disciplines is emphasized, allowing the development of effective interdisciplinary evidence-based treatment strategies to maximize treatment outcome.
This curriculum offers dental professionals a carefully planned sequence of learning experiences, including, first and foremost, online attendance of lectures, along with hands-on and group learning opportunities. By hosting the main body online - the theory content - we ensure that the curriculum is as accessible as possible to those willing to learn, independent of their geographical location, with an equal chance of success.
This curriculum is designed to help those practitioners who are interested in better preparing themselves to determine which treatment option is most appropriate for each individual patient. Through this program, we offer participants the opportunity to learn from a world-class, experienced faculty, enhancing their strengths and addressing areas for improvement. The curriculum has been developed under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Serota, who is the Scientific Director, Dr. Fred Barnett and Dr. Jose Hoyo, and will consist of a 130-hour blended learning program (ADA CERP accredited) over a period of two years.

    • Educational Background:
Undergraduate degree in Medical Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from California State University at Long Beach 1979
1983 Graduate of Howard University College of Dentistry
      Professional Summary:
After graduating from Howard University in 1983, Dr. Kelly accepted a position working with one of his former professors and also worked at the University as an Academic Reinforcement Instructor. Dr. Kelly realized that this was not the career path that he wished to follow so he moved back to Los Angeles, California to establish his practice. While waiting to pass the board examination Dr. Kelly worked at Southern California Edison Company as a Medical Analyst. This allowed Dr. Kelly to negotiate health care contracts and it also gave Dr. Kelly the opportunity to conduct health care seminars for the employees of the company.
Shortly after becoming Board Certified, Dr. Kelly joined Group Practices gaining invaluable experience in the various dental disciplines.  Dr. Kelly eventually opened his own practice which proved to be a great move, and eventually opened a second satellite practice in Playa Del Rey, California, in one of Southern California's more affluent neighborhoods.  This practice immediately excelled and became the primary practice until he moved to North Carolina.  The move to North Carolina was spawned by an offer that would allow him to practice in a more peaceful, intimate life style and environment for his family while producing K to 0K per month while  also allowing him to eventually move  into the type of Dentistry he had long envisioned, Oral Implantology, continuing Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.  Due to Dr. Kelly's love for the science of dentistry, this seemed the ultimate road to travel.
Since arriving in North Carolina Dr. Kelly has served as a Deputy Examiner for the North Carolina Sate Board of Dental Examiners. Also Dr. Kelly donates several hours of his time per month to free dental clinics in the Piedmont Triad Area. Dr. Kelly is an active member of the Forsyth County Dental Society, The American Dental Association, The North Carolina Dental Society, The Piedmont Society of Advanced Dental Studies, International Congress of Oral Implantology, Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. Dr. Kelly is an avid learner and strives to stay well informed of all new techniques and developments in his beloved profession.
